Dr. Bianca Martins received her DVM from São Paulo State University (Brazil) in 2002. She obtained her master's degree in Veterinary Ophthalmology in 2005 and completed her PhD in Veterinary Ophthalmology in 2008, at the same University. Dr. Martins completed a postdoctoral program at University of Florida in 2012, followed by a residency in Comparative Ophthalmology at University of Florida in 2015. She is currently an Associate Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at University of California – Davis, USA, and is the director of the Residency Program in Comparative Ophthalmology at UC Davis.
 
Dr. Martins obtained board certification from the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in 2016 and is an honorary member of the Latin American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (CLOVE). She is a board member of the International Society of Veterinary Ophthalmology (ISVO) and editor of its newsletter, The Globe. She is the President-elected of the International Equine Ophthalmology Consortium (IEOC) and is a board-member of its directory.  She is co-chair of the American Board of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO) Residency Committee.
 
Dr. Martins has authored several scientific articles and ophthalmology textbook chapters. Her research interests include equine ophthalmology and ocular surface reconstruction with an emphasis on the use of biological and synthetic grafts.
 
Dr. John S. Sapienza, DVM, Diplomate ACVO 
     Chairman of Ophthalmology Department, Long Island Veterinary Specialists, New York, USA

Dr Sapienza received his Bachelor of Science and DVM degree from Cornell University. He completed a one-year internship in small animal medicine & surgery at the Animal Medical Center in New York City, and a three-year residency in comparative ophthalmology at the University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Sapienza is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists, and the consultant veterinary ophthalmologist at the Bronx Zoo and the N.Y. Aquarium. Dr. Sapienza is the head and department chairman of the ophthalmology section at New York’s largest private practice referral center Long Island Veterinary Specialists (LIVS) in Plainview, New York. His special interests in ophthalmology include phacoemulsification cataract surgery, glaucoma surgeries and vitreoretinal procedures for retinal re-attachments.

He has lectured extensively throughout the Continental United States, Hawaii, Japan, Europe and South America. Dr. Sapienza speaks fluent Spanish, and is a frequent lecturer in Spain, as well as North and South America, for interactive advanced courses in Spanish.

John is married to his lovely wife, Dr. Angels Prades-Sapienza, a veterinarian from Barcelona, Spain, and they have two wonderful children, Marc and Angelina. The Sapienza family enjoys their extended pet family of 2 dogs. John enjoys traveling with his family and in his downtime, enjoying the Catskill Mountains in Upstate New York.

Dr. Akihiko Saito, DVM, PhD, Diplomate JSCVO, AiCVO
     Triangle Animal Eye Clinic, Tokyo, Japan

Dr. Akihiko graduated from Azabu Veterinary College in 1977. After spending 7 years clinical training in general practice, he founded his own clinic in 1984. He completed a PhD at Rakuno Gakuen University in 2000. Dr. Akihiko was a faculty of department of Veterinary Ophthalmology, College of Veterinary Medicine, Rakuno Gakuen University (2001-2021). Since 2006 he runs his own clinic specialized in veterinary ophthalmology (Triangle Animal Eye Clinic).

He was the President 
of International Society of Veterinary Ophthalmology (2009-2011) and Japan Veterinary Ophthalmic Conference (2010-2015).

Dr. Akihiko has hosted Comparative Ocular Surface Diseases Workshop since 2014.

His main research is ocular surface diseases in dogs and cats and has published many original papers and textbooks.
   
Prof. Kangmoon Seo, DVM, PhD, Diplomate AiCVO
     Professor of Veterinary Ophthalmology, College of Veterinary Medicine, Seoul National University, Korea

Dr. Kangmoon Seo is a professor at the Seoul National University (SNU), a former dean of College of Veterinary Medicine-SNU, a former director of VMTH-SNU, a former president of Asian Society of Veterianry Ophthalmogy (AiSVO)/Asian College of Veterianry Ophthalmologists (AiCVO), and a former president of International Society of Veterinary Ophthalmology (ISVO).

Upon his graduation in 1986, he got MS in 1988 and PhD in 1995 in SNU and travelled to Royal Veterinary College, London University as a post-doc fellow for 6 months to learn advanced veterinary ophthalmology under Prof. Peter Bedford. He joined the faculty at the Kangwon National University in 1997 and returned to SNU in 2002 as an assistant professor in veterinary ophthalmology. 

He founded AiSVO in Asia with Drs Lin (Taiwan) and Saito (Japan) in 2011. He obtained a founder diplomate of AiCVO in 2011. He also travelled Iowa state university (2005) and university of Wisconsin (2009-2010) to extended his knowledges of veterinary ophthalmology as a visiting scholar. 

He developed interests in the tear staining syndrome, medial canthoplasty, glaucoma treatment, cataract surgery and the other practical therapy.

He also has deep interests for student education and winner of numerous Teacher of the Year awards. He has published more than 200 peer-reviewed domestic and international papers including SCI(E) index papers.
      
Dr. Derek Chow, Diplomate ACVO, AiCVO
     Specialist in Veterinary Ophthalmology - Veterinary Specialty Hospital (Hong Kong)

Dr. Chow graduated from the University of Queensland, Australia.  Dr. Chow is a member of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists and the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. He is a Diplomate of the American and Asian College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists. He is the only Veterinary Ophthalmologist in Hong Kong that has specialty recognition in both Asia and North America.
 
Dr. Chow has lectured and presented in Hong Kong,  Australia, Thailand, Taiwan, South Korea, China, Japan and the United States of America. He received intensive training in vitreoretinal surgery with the European Vitreoretinal Training School- one of the premier vitreoretinal surgery training schools for humans.
 
Dr. Chow is a consultant in veterinary ophthalmology for horses at the Hong Kong Jockey Club and Hong Kong‘s fauna at the Kadoorie Farm and Botanical Garden in Hong Kong.
 
Dr. Chow is a member of the Animal Subjects Ethics Sub-Committee at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, overseeing research requiring the usage of animals. He is also one of the members on the core advisory board of the Animal Watch Program for the Hong Kong Police.
 
Dr. Chow has collaborated with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology to investigate hydrogel usage on canine dry eye.
 
Dr. Chow’s interest in Veterinary Ophthalmology includes medical therapy for glaucoma, ways to monitor the progression of glaucoma, glaucoma surgery, cataract surgery, and corneal reconstruction surgery.
 
Dr. Nalinee Tuntivanich, Diplomate AiCVO
     Faculty of the Department of Veterinary Surgery, and the Coordinative Staff of the Ophthalmology Unit,
     Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand

Dr Tuntivanich completed a DVM (Second Class Honor) from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, in 1996 and a PhD from College of Veterinary Medicine, Michigan State University, USA, in 2006. She is a Diplomate of the Thai Board of Veterinary Surgeon.
 
She is providing teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, giving lectures for veterinary students at other Universities, and providing clinical services at the Ophthalmology Unit, Small Animal Teaching Hospital, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University.
 
She is one of the founders of the Thai Society of Veterinary Ophthalmology Practitioners. She is currently the Vice President of the Asian Society of Veterinary Ophthalmologist, the secretariat of the College of Veterinary Specialties of Thailand, the committee member of the Thai Society of Veterinary Ophthalmology Practitioners, and the deputy director of the Small Animal Teaching Hospital, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University.
 
Her research of interests includes biological transplants for corneal reconstructive surgery in small animals, canine glaucoma therapy, and electroretinographic diagnosis in small animals.
 
Dr. Jaesang Ahn, DVM, PhD, Diplomate AiCVO, Diplomate KSVO
    Director of Dr. Ahn’s animal eye clinic, Seoul, Korea

He completed a DVM in 2008 and a PhD in 2014 from College of Veterinary Medicine, Seoul National University, Korea, and post-doctoral fellow in 2015 from University of Wisconsin Madison, USA. He founded his own clinic in 2016 at Seoul, Korea. Dr. Ahn's animal eye clinic provides care for 10,000 outpatients and performs 400 cases of surgery annually. His research of interests includes posterior capsular opacity after cataract surgery, lens instability surgery, and corneal reconstructive surgery in small animals. His representative thesis is about sub-Tenon’s anesthesia and sulcus fixation of IOL through a small corneal incision in dogs.
 
Prof. Chung-Tien Lin, DVM, PhD, Diplomate AiCVO
    Institute of Veterinary Clinical Science, National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan

Dr. Chung-Tien Lin is a Professor and the Director of the Institute of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, School of Veterinary Medicine, National Taiwan University in Taiwan. Dr Lin is the President of International Society of Veterinary Ophthalmology (ISVO). He was the President of the Asian Society of Veterinary Ophthalmology (AiSVO) and Asian College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (AiCVO). He was also the President of the Taiwan Society of Veterinary Ophthalmology (TSVO). Dr Lin was the founder Diplomate of the AiCVO in 2011.

Dr. Lin obtained his DVM degree from the National Taiwan University in 1991. He studied his PhD degree in canine gPRA at the Department of Clinical Veterinary Medicine with Drs David Sargan and Simon Petersen-Jones at the University of Cambridge in the UK. He visited the Ophthalmology Service of the Animal Health Trust, Newmarket for several months after PhD program.

Dr. Lin visited the Veterinary Ophthalmology Services at the VCA and Eye Care for Animals in LA, USA in 2004. He also visited Veterinary Ophthalmology Services of the North Carolina State University (NCSU) and Ohio State University (OSU)/MedVet for several months as a visiting scholar in 2005.

Dr. Lin is interested in clinical veterinary ophthalmology and comparative ophthalmology. He is particularly interested in corneal wound healing, dry eye syndrome, glaucoma, and retinal diseases in small animals.
